....The six acre - site boasts a well appointed
club-house, new electronic scoreboard, parking facilities that would
not disgrace a first class arena and a ground that matches many a top
arena anywhere in the country. The square is
home to an incredible 19 pitches - more than some leading
counties - and with the boundaries 80 yards deep on each side of
the wicket it is little wonder that from east to west the ground
measures 220 yards- appropriately enough in such a racy setting, a
furlong..... If the opinion of Huntingdonshire's opener
Wayne Larkins is anything to go by, he quality of the pitch used was as
good as any track he has batted on in his long career with
Northamptonshire, Durham and England....." |

'I arrived in Queensland at the beginning of October to play the season for Redlands Tigers in the Brisbane grade competitions. Since then I have had the opportunity to play and train in very different conditions to back home which has been very beneficial. It has also been good to play both one and two day cricket which require a variety of different skills. Before Christmas I worked my way up through the grades and played my first game for the 3rd grade team last week against University of Queensland and scored 65. I have been working hard on my game during the week with Blair Copelin, former Challow player and head coach at Redlands, who has been a massive help for me. During November I had the chance to bowl at both the Australian and West Indies players for a couple of days leading up to the Brisbane test match which was a great experience. Happy new year to everyone, have a good pre season and I look forward to returning home in March ready for the start of the new season.' James with

Challow benefit from new mower It
is
with
great
thanks
to the ECB Machinery Fund that we were able to
take delivery of our new outfield mower in mid August. The new
John Deer ‘triple’ will allow Weed to cut the outfield in a fraction of
the usual time, and may even see some more grass being brave enough to
show its face! The new mower was purchased thanks to the grant
aid scheme that is only open to Clubmark Accredited Focus Clubs, and
contributed 75% of the cost of the mower – some £6000. 2009 season averages now available 1st XI averages > batting , stands and bowling and 2nd XI averages here Challow & Childrey beat Great & Little Tew by 34 runs to leapfrog their opponents and so claim the second promotion place in Division 2. David Slade was Challow's hero, taking 5-27 as Tew tumbled to 143 all out. Earlier, Challow had posted 177-8 after choosing to bat first, Ian Demain top-scoring with 52, while James Phillips chipped in with 37. (Oxford Mail 7th September 2009) On a rare, fine sunny day Challow did
well to restrict M.C.C. to 225-7 in 54 overs. The declaration
left Challow 41 overs to make the runs and despite a good start we lost
quick wickets in this challenging run chase to be all out for
184. Many thanks to John Pilcher's hard work in organising this
festive cricket day and to Rupert Evans for bringing the M.C.C.
team.

Rolling back the years with the Steve Penney XI (or 15 to be more accurate) v the Club on Sunday, 21st June 2009. Spot any Old Timers you know?
Check out http://www.challowccfantasy.350.com. Hopefully some fun and definitely not just for players, select your fantasy side and email it to Ian Demain along with your team name to challowcc@live.co.uk. The award
recognises the "safe, effective and child friendly" practices within
the club. Challow's
Clubmark manager Steve Penney said: "The main benefit is
the profile the scheme brings and the positive messages it sends out
about the quality and safety of the club's junior section." Oxfordshire
Cricket Board chairman Chris Clements, who presented
the certificate, said that Challow should be commended for their
approach to club development.
