Jun  9      Abingdon 222                                                     Challow 233
After a good all round performance in the field in which they claimed 4 wickets Challow made a disastrous start when batting. The first pair lost 3 wickets in the first two overs and finished at 196 after starting at 200. (You lose 6 runs for every wicket). The next pairs took on the advice not to lose any more wickets. Chris Garrett and Sam Crickmore started things rolling by adding 19 runs for the next pair and it was finished of by George Rimmer and Seb Rey who added 16 runs to take the team to victory.

Jun 16     Hendred  271                                                      Challow 227
A strong Hendred team made life difficult for the Challow youngsters with a massive score of 271.  The Challow opening pair were unlucky to lose 3 wickets but to their credit the remaining batsman did not give up. Lead by skipper Conor Jones who topped scored with 16 they recovered to 227.

Jun 22     Didcot 239 (Tom Wells 3-7)                                     Challow 264 (Chris Garrett 12, Kit Tinker 10 Conor Jones 14 Tom Wells 13)

Challow completed their league season with a good victory over Didcot revenging the defeat suffered earlier in the season.   Eveyone bowled well as 6 wickets were taken but the pick was Tom Wells with 3 for 7 as the Didcot last pair lost 3 wickets to reduce the total from 253 to  239.  Every pair added to the score.  Chris Garrett 12 along with Harry Kent got the innings off to a good start with 17 runs. Although the second pair lost 3 wickets Kit Tinker with 10  ensured the score moved forward. The 3rd pair of Conor Jones 14 and Seb Buck 8 added 23 and victory was confirmed by Tom Wells 13 and Sam Crickmore who added 21 taking the final total to 264.

Jun 5       Challow 66-5                                                                                            Stoke Row 43 ao

Challow made the long journey to Stoke Row after a two week lay off and batted very disappointingly with poor shot selection and even worse running between the wicket. Nigel Hume again topped scored with 19 and although Luke Jones 16, Louis Balestri 11 and Kenny Brodie 10 made it to double figures the final total of 66 in normal circumstances would not have been enough. However, Stoke Row had only 6 players and with Challow lending them 4 fielders including Mark Girling as wicket keeper and cheekily also two bowlers the match went ahead.
When Stoke Row came to bat Challow realised they were in a proper match and a much better bowling and fielding performance saw them home. Nigel Hume and Kenny Brodie set the standard with good opening spells. Cameron Stanton took two good catches as did Jack Tinker who had a good game as wicket keeper. A caught and bowled by Chris Teale of his first ball wrapped up the innings for 43 and maintained the teams undefeated record this season.

Jun 12 (plate cup) Challow 160-2 (Nigel Hume 32 ret Joe Harris ret Louis Balestri 27no)   Aston Rowant 62ao

Challow had a comfortable victory through to the plate semi finals. Batting first Challow racked up a massive 160 runs thanks to aggressive knocks by Joe Harris and Nigel Hume who both made 32 before having to retire. The good work was continued by Louis Balestri who made a quick fire 27no and the score was aided by 43 extras. Aston Rowant had no reply to the opening burst of quick bowling by Nigel Hume and Luke Jones and with everyone given a chance to bowl Joe Harris completed an excellent match in taking 3 wickets in two overs of spin bowling.

Jun 19     Challow 90-5    (Nigel Hume 30 ret Louis Balestri 29)                                       Abingdon Vale 61-7 (Louis Balestri 4-9)
Challow batted first and a rapid 30 from Nigel Hume before he had to retire got them off to a flyer and with Louis Balestri making 29 a big total look possible. But from a score of 63 for 1 after 10 overs the scoring rate could not be maintained and the final total of 90 was a little disappointing.  The boys knew they would have to bowl well to keep their unbeaten run intact. In blistering heat the bowlers of Challow were always on top and Abingdon never threatened the total. Louis Balestri completed a good match taking 4 for 9 as Challow won by 29 runs.

May 23   Challow 110 for 4 (James Mabbett 64no)                              Wallingford rsp and  points shared.

The U15 are having a great season and are undefeated at this stage as are Wallingford - so there is everything to play for in the remaining games. The star is undoubtably Dan Hawkins although closly followed by James Mabbett who has played for the county U15 v Middlesex.

Jun  6      Didcot  83-8                                                                      Challow 84-4
This was a top of the table clash as Didcot were unbeaten and Challow had also won all their games except the rain affected game against Wallingford with the points shared.  Didcot batted first and excellent opening spells by Dan Hawkins 4 overs 1 for 10 and James Mabbett 4 overs 1 for 15 kept the runs in check and at half way Didcot had reached 48 for 3. Despite a well made 25 by S Burningham the bowlers remained on top backed up by some great catches and two run outs. Daniel Rey picked up 2 wickets for 13 runs and Didcot eventually finished on 83 for 8.
A quick fire 17 from Dan Hawkins put Challow ahead of the run rate and the good work was continued by skipper Nick Burton with 12 and the match winner James Mabbett who finished the match in style with consecutive sixes in a top score of 35 no as Challow wrapped up a 6 wicket win inside 17 overs.

Jun 13     Kidlington 117-3                                                               Challow  118-2 (Nick Burton 60no,James Mabbett 40no)
In probably their worst bowling and fielding display they allowed Kidlington to post 117 for 3. There was no discipline in the field and all the previous good team work seemed to have been forgotten. They then made a poor start when batting losing prolific scorer Dan Hawkins in the first over and then Luke Russell in the 2nd over although he scored 18 runs of the first 5 balls. Then finally two players took control of the situation. Taking runs where available they saw off the opening bowlers without further loss and then picked up the run rate against the change bowlers. Skipper Nick Burton played the crucial innings mixing solid defence with some wonderful attacking shots and desevedly made his maiden half centry finishing on 60no.  He was well supported by James Mabbett who played an equally important innings finishing on 40no. Challow felt very relieved to wrap up victory in the 18th over an keep the season unbeaten run going.

Jun 27       Challow 237-4 (Luke Russell 108 and James Mabbett 89)  Summertown 72-7
Challow remain undefeated with just one match remaining.  A massive 2nd wicket partnership of 202 in 18 overs between Luke Russell who scored a maiden century with 108 and a cultured 89 from James Mabbett ensured the final total was an impressive 237 for 4.  Challow chose not to use their strike bowlers in favour of giving everyone a game. Wickets fell regularly as Summertown gamely tried to score as many as possible before finishing on 72 - 7.
