DIDCOT 1st XI v SECOND
TEAM
CHERWELL DIV 4
Two major innings helped Didcot post a very useful 202 for 9. Opener Matt Jones made 55 and Simon Pritchard 72 as they added 81 for the 6th wicket. Dropped catches did not help but the young leg spin partnership of James Philips 4 for 59 and Rob Harries 2 for 70 kept Challow in the game. Skipper Mark Podbery led the fight back for Challow with 54 and some lusty blows frrom Will Harvey with 31 put Chalow in charge. However with Matt Jones completing an excellent game with 6 for 58, wickets continued to fall. Two wickets on the score of 195 meant that 8 were still needed with the last pair at the wicket. Phil Cox with 19no held his nerve and Challow squeaked a one wicket victory with seven balls to spare.

OXFORD DOWN v FIRST TEAM
CHERWELL DIV 1
Oxford Downs maintained their championship push by beating Challow by four wickets. Goolam Bhayat took 5-65 as Challow were dismissed for 187 despite the best efforts of Dan Maroske, who scored exactly 50. Downs' Chris Sandbach continued his fine form with a useful 53 before veteran Ian Caunce finished the job with an unbeaten 37.
SECOND TEAM
v LONG MARSTON
CHERWELL DIV 4
A second wicket
partnership of 61 between Owen Dimbylow, 42
and Justin Penrose, 67 took Challow to 106 for 2 after having been
asked to bat
first. A useful knock of 41 from Neil Podbery and some late big hits
from Phil Cox enabled Challow to secure maximum batting points at 221
for 7.
Challow rued the early drop of opener Mike Lyons who went on
to make 69 but at 133 for 5 Challow were still in the game. Despite the
best
efforts of Mark Middleton who bowled unchanged to record 4 for 97 the
match
winner for league leaders Long Marston was Will Dallimore with an
undefeated 55
as they wrapped up a 4 wicket victory with 2 overs to spare.

FIRST TEAM v OXFORD 2nds
CHERWELL DIV 1
Oxford won the toss and
asked Challow to bat. This paid
early dividends as Glyn Lumb was caught for just 2 and skipper
A century opening stand between T Hutcheson 52 and F Vainker
83 seemed to have taken the game away from Challow. The introduction of
spin
partners Lee Stevens and Adam Hunter changed things as they both
claimed 3
wickets which ensured a dramatic final over. Needing 5 off the last
over bowled
by Adam Hunter the first 3 balls were all dots, the fourth went for 2
and a
wicket off the fifth left Oxford needing 3 off the last ball for
victory but
they could only manage two to tie the match.
BRACKLEY v SECOND TEAM
CHERWELL DIV 4
Brackley won the toss
and inserted the Challow second string.
Young James Philips topped scored with 44 and was well supported by
Roger
Podbery with 36. Some late big hits from Aussie Dan Maroske with 42no
lifted
the final total to 209.
Brackley made a good start in reply helped by some wayward
bowling that lead to over 50 extras. Led by quick bowler Dan Maroske
wickets
fell regularly and another tense finish was played out. In the end Dan
claimed
6 for 81 and Brackley were dismissed for 200 giving Challow victory by
9 run
THIRD TEAM v MINSTER LOVELL 3rds
OCA Div 8
Wantage excellent season
continued with a close 2 wicket
victory over Minster Lovell 3rds. Hero of the day was Ian Russell who
firstly
claimed 4 for 32 as Minster Lovell were restricted to 153 for 8 thanks
to T Gush
with 42 and G Blake with 40.
The Wantage reply got off to a dreadful start as they
slumped to 42 for 6 as K Simms claimed 5 for 18. A seventh wicket
partnership
of 74 between James Mabbett 30 and Ian Russell rescued the situation
and took
the score to 116 and Ian Russell ensured a two wicket victory with 10

MILTON KEYNES v FIRST
TEAM
As usual the top three
of Julian Penney 47, Glyn Lumb 30 and
Ian Demain 36 gave Challow an excellent start as they reached 129 for 2
after
35 overs. However we were unable to push home the advantage and
it took some
late big shots from Dan Maroske with 30 not out to take the final total
to 213
for 8. N Pickard with 4 for 91 and J Clark with 3 for 32 were the pick
of their
bowlers.
Olly Dimbylow gave Challow hope with two early
wickets and
at 97 for 4 after 17 overs the game was finely balanced. From then on,
opener P
Strong with 86no and N Packard with 56no dominanted and ensured that
Milton
Keynes cruised to a 6 wicket victory with more than 14 overs to spare.
SECOND TEAM v PRINCES
RISBOROUGH
CHERWELL DIV 4
Rob Owen totally
dominated an opening partnership of 120
with 91 before both he and fellow opener James Phillips 21 were out on
the same
score. Thereafter Steve Burry took the game away from Princes
Risborough with a
classy 105 as Challow posted a massive 305 for 7.
Risborough never threatened the total and were only
interested in denying Challow points as they limped to 101 for 1 at
half way.
Openers A Morton 87 and D Rutland 37 ensured the game was doomed to a
draw.
Keeping catchers in place, Challow chased wickets at the cost of easy
runs and
at the close of play Risborough were flattered by the score of 221 for
7.
THIRD TEAM v SUNNINGWELL
OCA DIV 8
Wantage continued their
excellent season with a very
comfortable 8 wicket victory over Sunningwell. Batting first
Sunningwell were
grateful to an unbroken partnership between P Wiggins 55no and D
Roberts 44no
as they posted 191 for 5 with 16 year old James Mabbett taking 3 for 18.
Make shift opener Duncan Wooloff took the attack to
the

through the
tail as he claimed 6 for 86 from 17 overs as Dinton posted 227 for 9.
Despite the early loss of Glyn Lumb, skipper
SECOND TEAM v BICESTER & NORTH OXFORD 2NDS
CHERWELL DIV 4
Challow finally found
how to catch and that proved the
difference. With Bicester & NO cruising at 115 for 2 a great catch
by stand
in skipper Steve Penney to remove Nathan Watkins for 38 set the
standard. With Steve Burry turning the ball sharply with his off spin
to eventually
finish with 5 for 29, Bicester were dismissed for 185 after 47 overs.
Rob Owen was in a hurry at the start of the Challow reply as
they raced to 39 inside 4 overs. Youngster James Phillips played a more
patient
innings of 22 as alongside Steve Burry they took the score to 90 before
Steve
was out for 48. As ever, Challow kept everybody interested as more
wickets fell
and it was left to Mark Crone with 21
no to guide the team to a 4 wicket victory with 7 overs to spare.

Batting first, the
innings was dominanted by Glynn Lumb who
made 102. With Owen Dimbylow making 25 Challow were well placed
at 100 for 2

slumped to
172 all out with James Gear claiming 4 for 49.
Dan Maroske claimed two quick wickets after tea to

CHERWELL DIV 4
At first, the Challow batting improved on the
previous week
as they reached 116 for 2 with Neil Podbery making 66. However,
from there they
collapsed to 155 all out inside 47 overs as N Davies picked up 3 - 39.
The bowlers fared even worse as the Chearsley batsman
appeared in a hurry as they coasted to an eight wicket victory inside
24 overs
as N Davies completed a fine match with 62 no and opener A Warr also
made a
half century.
MINSTER LOVELL 3rd v THIRD TEAM
In a match reduced to 35 overs a side because of
rain
we did well to restrict Minster Lovell to 114 for 6 with D Bostock
making
53 no and D Meyers 22 as they added 63 for the 6th wicket. Youngster
Luke Jones
with 2 for 18 was the pick of the bowlers.
Wantage got off to a nervy start and at 12 for 2 were in
trouble until the ever reliable Francis Brown with 37 and David Henson
with 31
added 62 for the 3rd wicket. Once they were both out the match was
again in
the balance as K Simms claimed 4 for 31 but skipper Steve Pritchard
made sure
of victory with 15 no as Wantage got home by 5 wickets with just one
over
remaining.
